Cruz-ing & Creating

our new powerboat "Andiamo" means "Let's Go" in Italian

What a great weekend. My husband created our new custom power boat which took almost two years to build. During that time he was traveling a lot for design work with the America's Cup syndicate Team Alinghi. He has now signed on with the defending team, Oracle, from San Franciso as a designer for their next campaign.

We took the virgin voyage to St. John and had a delicious lunch at the Sun Dog Cafe in Mongoose Junction. Our favorite spot, The Caneel Bay Resort, was closed for renovations. Bummer. Afterward we took the boat around the entire island for a fun tour which my 5 year old loved and anchored for a swim and nap. My kind of Sunday!

my son Tristan thinks it's Number 1

It was a great week filled with lot's of behind the scenes for business and getting new designs organized. I also managed to do a few more paintings that will be featured as part of the Art Walk in Atlantic Beach Florida next month. My work will be presented by a fabulous new showroom/shop called At Home on Atlantic Boulevard. I am very excited.

Here are some pics of recent works. Enjoy and have a great week!

Printing, Painting & Exploring

New designs have been printed and shipped off to the seamstress for sewing. The 2011 Collection will be available in October.

After 3 days of non-stop printing I needed an afternoon of relaxing by the sea. I love to head to the west end of the island to beachcomb and my son loves to tag along with me. We always hunt for shells with holes in them for my isola bella gift wrapping and of course he loves to search for seaglass for his collection. The recent storms washed up many hills of beautiful shells and coral to sift through and formed little tidal pools for us to splash in.

Inspiration around every bend.

Some new paintings to share from this week with you.
Hope your new week is wonderful!

Cocktails Anyone?

Excited about new colors and designs just added to the linen cocktail napkin collection. I dipped into my found objects in search of inspiration and Voila!

All of these colors are custom handmixed earth friendly dyes.
Top to bottom: Sand Dollar, Purple Urchin, Shell, Seawhip
Each style is sold in sets of 4.

Also in the works for this month are new limited edition pillow designs in a huge array of gorgeous Russian Linen colors. Colors will range from deep oranges, olives, blues, to chocolate browns and rich violets. I think I have been thinking a lot about my winter friends up North and was drawn to these very rich and earthy hues for the Fall/Winter Collection. Linen for me is an all year love affair.

These are new colors for pillows coming late September. Just delivered to my desk today and I am sorting out the colors schemes and designs for them. Will be fun to re-interpret some popular prints in new color combinations. Think I may have a photo shoot for these on a deserted nearby island once we get our new powerboat in the water this month. Excited to share lot's of new goodies with you soon and you know I love a giveaway! So look out for the
Fall giveaway coming in late October!

I am off to print now...

Recent Paintings by Gina Feddersen

Hurricane Earl kept me quite busy last week. In the wake he left quite a mess to tidy up in the garden but so happy nothing more to repair and the Queen Palm he knocked over was saved. Isola Bella work was on hold for a few days and it allowed me to spend time doing what I love, painting. Here are some new works and more coming this week. Diving into my art on canvas brought me back to fond memories of my days in art school on Long Island and the fabulous exhibits I have gone to see in galleries throughout New York City. I am creating a new series of paintings that are coastal and seaside inspired as well as inspired by the local island culture here on St. Thomas.

"Boy and His Horse"
24" x 30" acrylic on canvas
by Gina Feddersen

This painting was inspired by a day on St. Thomas where my husband and I had just kayaked back to shore from a beachcombing adventure and we saw this young boy on his horse galloping along the beach. Was the perfect ending to the day.

"Dominoes at the Dairies"
by Gina Feddersen
24" x 30" acrylic on canvas

Inspired by my son's favorite ice cream stop on the island. St. Thomas Dairies. Every afternoon when we drive by on our way home we see the same group of men at the same table enjoying a fun afternoon game of dominoes. A local favorite pasttime. One afternoon I pulled in and asked if I could take a photo of their hands playing the game and they graciously obliged. Was such a fun painting to render. I should have called it "Earl" as I painted it the night the hurricane hit and we were all boarded up inside safe and sound.

"Found Urchins"
by Gina Feddersen
8" x 10" acrylic and canvas

I have an addiction. I confess! I am addicted to collecting any beautiful fragment that washes up along the shore. They always serve for great subjects in my paintings. These particular sea urchins were found in Sanibel Island, Florida. They now fill a glass bowl in my home. Happy memories of me and my sister spending a quiet day on vacation together.

"Glass Bottle and Starfish"
by Gina Feddersen
11" x 14" acrylic on canvas

I found an old bottle here in my favorite antique shop on St. Thomas and had this white starfish that I propped up on my sill to paint. One of my favorites.

"Starfish"
by Gina Feddersen
acrylic on canvas 11" x 14"

More starfish. I love to paint them. Have a few more coming in a few days. This is a very vibrant one where I mixed lot's of turquoise and bright blues together for the background. My inspiration was the sky and sea of course.

All of these paintings are currently available. For inquiries contact me.
